Utah Salesperson & Broker Continuing Education Requirements

General Requirements

• Licenses must be renewed every two years, with renewal applications submitted no sooner than 45 days before, and no later than the license expiration date.
  • A total of 18 hours of CE is required per renewal cycle, with a mix of Core Topic and Elective CE courses.
    Specifics for Active Licensees:
• At least 9 of the 18 hours must be Core Topic Courses.
  • 3 of these 9 Core Topic hours must be completed by taking a Division-approved 3-Hour Mandatory Course, tailored to licensees’ specialties in Residential, Commercial, or Property Management.

New Utah Real Estate Agents:

• Must take a 12-Hour New Agent Course, the 3-Hour Mandatory Course, and an additional 3 hours of CE (either Core Topic or Elective).

Renewal Process:

• All CE must be completed by the 15th day of the renewal month.

Inactive Licensees:

• CE is not required for renewing an inactive license. However, upon reactivation, compliance with active licensee CE requirements is mandatory, depending on the license status history. Verify with the Utah Division of Real Estate.

Expired Licenses:

• Licenses expired for up to 30 days can be renewed with a $50 late fee but do not require additional CE for reactivation. Licenses expired for 31 days to 12 months incur $50 late fee and a $50 reinstatement fee, but still do not require additional CE for inactive status renewal.

The 3-Hour Mandatory CE Course

Since January 2020, a new Mandatory 3-Hour CE Course has been introduced for all active real estate license renewals. This course is essential for addressing current industry concerns, areas of confusion, common misconceptions, and disciplinary actions. Licensees can choose from versions focusing on Residential, Commercial, or Property Management to best suit their area of focus. The course aims to establish a universal training standard, enhancing the professional development of Utah’s real estate community.
