Iowa Real Estate Salesperson License Requirements

To become a salesperson in Iowa, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Age: Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Education: Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Coursework: Complete a total of 96 hours of pre-license education from an approved provider, which includes:
    • 60-hour pre-license course.
    • Three additional 12-hour courses covering Buying Practices, Listing Practices, and Developing Professionalism and Ethical Practices.

6 Steps to Obtain Your Real Estate License in Iowa

  1. Complete Required Education: Finish the 60-hour pre-license course and three 12-hour courses from an approved provider.
  2. Pass the Course Final Exam: Successfully complete the final exams for all required courses.
  3. Pass the Licensing Exam: Schedule and pass the state and national portions of the Iowa Real Estate Salesperson Licensing Exam. The exam must be taken within one year of completing the required education.
  4. Submit Fingerprints: Complete a fingerprint-based background check.
