California Real Estate License Requirements
To become a real estate Salesperson in California, you must meet the following requirements:
- Age: Must be at least 18 years old.
- Residency: Non-residents can apply, but additional documentation may be required.
- Honesty: Must be honest and truthful. Conviction of a crime may result in the denial of a license.
- Education: Must complete three college-level courses:
- Real Estate Principles
- Real Estate Practice
- One elective course such as Real Estate Appraisal, Property Management, Real Estate Finance, etc.
5 Steps to Obtain Your Real Estate License in California
- Complete Required Education: Finish the three required college-level courses.
- Apply for the Exam: Submit an application for the salesperson examination through the Department of Real Estate (DRE) eLicensing system.
- Schedule and Pass the Exam: After application approval, schedule and pass the salesperson exam.
- Submit Fingerprints: Complete a background check through Live Scan.
- Apply for the License: After passing the exam, apply for the license through the DRE.
